As part of the 2017

workingclasstheatre is back for a fourth year at the Victoria Fringe Festival with their second season of the smash hit CAFE SOAP OPERAS! A live, episodic sitcom performed twice over the run nights of the festival. This season consists of six brand new episodes, written, acted, and directed by members of workingclasstheatre’s main company: Tristan Bacon, Markus Spodzieja, Emma Hughes and Rae Paxton, as well as new guests joining them to round out the cafe community, CCPA students Emil Morgenson, Nicole Bartosinski, and Avry Payne.

Written in the style of How I Met Your Mother, Happy Endings, and Community, CAFE SOAP OPERAS! is set in staple local coffeehouse 2%Jazz (owned and operated by long-time fringe supporter Sam Jones). We’re back with all of  the answers to questions left hanging in Season one. Following the precarious love story between Josh and Andrea, Season 2 introduces their doppelganger enemies Sandy, and the Instagram famous indoor rock climbing couple JANNIE. All the while revealing behind-the-scenes info thanks to our trusted Barista and his new, and unsuspected, side-kick: The New Barista. This season is full of even more quirky comedy, touching moments, witty banter, and the best damn coffee in town.

CAFE SOAP OPERAS! Is episodic - each show is different. It’s a whole season in two weeks! The story is continuous - come see more than one show to get to know the gang better and piece together the overall story.

workingclasstheatre operates under the artistic direction of local director Tristan Bacon, remembered by theatre aficionados for Burn This (Market Square), Hedda Gabbler (Craigdarroch Castle) and Tempest: Variations (SPARK! at the Belfry). Tristan holds a directing degree from UVic (‘14) and an acting diploma from Capilano University (‘09). CAFE SOAP OPERAS! Has been in development for six years and has many cafes, baristas, actors, shop owners, roasters, and artists to thank for its development.

Owner Sam Jones Began the company in 1996 with an outdoor kisosk, and over the years has built it from that little cart to a full scale operation, featuring a robust wholesale program, two cafes and a small roaster.
